31 Days of Halloween

Day 17

In the 80's one of my favorite TV shows was Amazing Stories. Produced and created by Steven Spielberg. It was an anthology series show featuring standalone fantasy, sci-fi, horror, and comedy tales.

One of my favorite episodes was called: The Mission. Jonathan, a WWII gunner, is an aspiring cartoonist. When he gets trapped in the ball turret with their landing gear destroyed, there's no way Jonathan is getting out of that plane alive. However, using only his imagination and a sketchbook, he draws a cartoon set of landing wheels that work and lands the plane safely. Grasping his sketchbook seemingly in a trance, Jonathan is taken out of the turret and away from the plane. The huge cartoon wheels remain until Jonathan wakes from his meditation — then the plane falls to the ground, shattering the ball turret he just occupied.

A few of my favorite episodes are:

Magic Saturday

Marky adores his seemingly indefatigable Grampa, and when old Storming Norman takes ill, the boy invokes a magic spell to switch bodies and allow his Grampa to play one last baseball game.

Welcome to My Nightmare

Horror flicks are Harry's life, but when the obsessed teenager suddenly steps into a blood-curdling scene from the film 'Psycho', the real world looks a whole lot better.

The 1985 television anthology series Amazing Stories was created by Steven Spielberg, alongside cocreators Joshua Brand and John Falsey.

Creation and NBC Deal. In 1985, NBC gave Steven Spielberg a two-year contract to produce a weekly television show, inspired by classic anthology series like The Twilight Zone and Alfred Hitchcock Presents. The show licensed its name from Amazing Stories, which was the first-ever dedicated science fiction magazine, launched by Hugo Gernsback in April 1926.
