31 Days of Halloween with The Kelly Society Day 19 - Pam Harrington

31 Days of Halloween with

The Kelly Society

Day 19

Hi, everyone. My name is Pam Harrington, and I’m Neal’s sister. First of all, let me say I’m so glad my brother found Vivien, they are a great couple!

All right. My spooky share is about what happened to me last Halloween season. I’d just acquired my real estate broker license and was ready to sell houses! I live in Santa Cruz, California, and I got a listing for a beautiful restored Victorian home. Since I was about to show the house to my first clients two days before Halloween, I had the front porch decorated for the holiday. Oh, and a quick shout out to Grandin Road for the décor!

I arrived early so I could greet my clients. I got the key out of the lockbox and opened the door. After putting my purse and organizer filled with flyers on the kitchen counter, I ran upstairs to check all the rooms. Each room had been styled just right. Upon returning to the kitchen, I heard a scratching noise from the sliding glass door in the living room. I went to investigate, but nothing moved in the backyard. I figured a bird or squirrel made the noise and just before I turned around to go back to the kitchen, a large hand fell onto my shoulder. I screamed bloody murder! Whipping around, I kicked my leg up into a tall body behind me. Unbeknown to most people, I’d taken self-defense courses.

Down went my colleague Norman. Another guy came running in from the foyer, and it was Jack. They both worked in the same real estate office as me. When I asked what the hell they were doing, they told me it was a joke. They started a tradition of initiating new brokers by giving them a scare before they show their first house. But Norman was quickly regretful, as he eased himself up from the floor with a bloody nose. No, it wasn’t broken, but it bled just the same. They actually apologized to me, and we had a few laughs.

But the best part was a few days later, after showing the home, my clients bought the place! My first showing and I made the sale!

Have a happy and spooky Halloween all!
