Meet Sydney Winward! Author of Root Brew Float

Josephine Brevil has lived hundreds of years haunted by the horrors she experienced during the Salem Witch Trials. She takes great care to hide her powers, though serving a Root Brew Float laced with a magic potion now and again never hurt anybody. The Order sends her to Massachusetts to deal with a paranormal threat, and she meets the young and handsome widower, Clarence Watts. However, being with him comes with a choice. How can she choose between the man she loves and the magic she holds dear?

Tell us a bit about yourself

Thanks for having me on your blog! I love writing fantasy and paranormal romance. There’s something so appealing about making up my own world and magic system, and I can’t forget to add the romance! I’m a sucker for it.

How do you find time to write?

It’s definitely not easy. I have a toddler who never naps, and a baby who always wants to be held. Only when I put the kids down for bed do I get a little time for myself. Unless my toddler keeps sneaking out of his room to steal ice cream from the freezer…

What are your publishing tips?

I think it’s important to have your manuscript in tip-top shape before sending it into your publisher or to an agent. Have others look at your manuscript—beta readers, editor, etc. Sometimes the author is just too close to the story to see what is working and what is not, what needs to be changed, and how the story can improve. Listen to the feedback! If someone has an issue with something in your manuscript, chances are other people will too.

Any promotional and marketing tips?

Just keep trying. In a market so vast, with millions of books out there and more being published every day, it’s not easy to stand out. Keep writing. Keep publishing. Keep trying. It takes time!

When you get up in the morning, what makes you want to keep on writing and tell a story?

If I’m excited about the story, and I know it’s going somewhere, then I’m itching to sit down and write. But if my excitement isn’t there, sometimes I have to force myself to scrap a project and move onto something else entirely. I believe that if I’m not excited about my project, then my readers won’t be either.

Lastly, tell us about your recent book.

My most recent book is a part of the One Scoop or Two Series from The Wild Rose Press called Root Brew Float. It’s full of lots of ice cream, lots of magic, and of course, lots of romance! An immortal witch named Josephine is sent to Massachusetts to take care of a paranormal threat. However, fate leads her to a man named Clarence, and as she starts to fall for him, she must choose between keeping her magic and giving it up to become a mortal like him. Falling in love certainly hadn’t been a part of the plan.

Excerpt:

“There’s a reason we’re inside the circle. Nothing can touch us in here. Now close your eyes and listen to my voice.” She paused for a moment to take a deep breath, channeling the magic swirling within her core. “Clarence Watts, our task here is to send your deceased wife into the afterlife, beyond the door and into the next realm. If you have done as I previously instructed, you have gotten rid of many of Heidi’s earthly belongings, which is a crucial step to letting her go. Now, imagine a rope that connects you to Heidi. Cut it and sever the tie.”

“It can’t be that simple.”

“It’s not. It’s symbolic of freeing her, but the act of letting go is another story altogether.”

“I’m not sure how I’m supposed to let her go.”

“Cling onto something else you care about. It usually helps.”

His hands tightened around hers. She cracked her eyes open, her heart racing as she stared at their conjoined hands. The word home echoed in her mind again, and when she tried to push it away, it slammed back into her stronger than before.

Home is with the Order, she insisted.

Yet, her pounding heart didn’t believe her.
